Pentagon pigs at a trough

Reuters: The U.S. Air Force is asking the Pentagon's leadership for a staggering $50 billion in emergency funding for fiscal 2007 -- an amount equal to nearly half its annual budget, defense analyst Loren Thompson of the Lexington Institute said on Tuesday. They need Iran to get this funding.

Interesting but not shocking really. The Army's request for more money was recently shot down by OMB, so they are operating about $20B under what they asked OMB for.

The Air Force is ridiculous though. I'm sure some of their airframes are getting old, but there's a massive difference between the use they've received versus the ground vehicles of the Army and Marine Corps.

If this is somehow approved, it truly shows that Rumsfeld and Co. really do have a case of the ass against the Army.

It also may show that the General Officer Corps of all services are smelling political change coming, and are wanting to get as much money as possible before the spigots are turned off.
