Freebase and the wars over metadata

Like Dave, I find the hype over Freebase confusing. What it can become is a good repository of structured data that is poured into it by anyone with access to something useful. The key to that is how easy it is to both add and extract value from it. Not sure that aligns with expectations.

To me, the real first step is to find a way to add metadata to all of the existing "unstructured data" that is growing by leaps and bounds every minute, day, and year.

I don't know about you, but I sure wouldn't hold my breath waiting for metadata to magically appear.

By the way, did you see this exchange between Tom Foremski and Matt Cutts?
