Western Response to Thai Disruption

This is hilarious:

The United States State Department called the airport seizures “not an appropriate means of protest” and urged protesters to ““walk away from the airports peacefully.” European Union ambassadors in Bangkok issued a statement that called the seizures of the airports “totally inappropriate.” “We urge the protesters to evacuate the airports peacefully without delay in order to avoid a major consular crisis and its economic consequences for Thailand,” the European ambassadors said.

Of course it is an appropriate means of protest. Standard protest doesn't work (there is no fear of any meaningful ideological opposition). As a result, it's just background noise in a global market environment. Protest that shuts down systempunkts may work since it has demonstrable economic consequences. We'll see.

"Appropriate" is bureacracy speak for "manageable without significant change to existing procedures, resources, etc." - protest is only 'appropriate' insofar as it is ineffective.
