PMCs in Iraq
Fortune (subscription required): Private Sector Soldiers
- In many ways it was a textbook example of urban warfare. In April a group of well-armed Shia militia in the Iraqi city of Najaf attempted to storm the local Coalition Provisional Authority offices. The badly outnumbered defenders repulsed the attack during a 23-hour firefight, shooting off thousands of rounds of ammunition. When bullets ran low, they called in helicopters to drop off fresh supplies and ferry out the wounded. But in a critical way the battle in Najaf represents the new face of modern warfare: Most of the defenders were not soldiers but civilian contractors—employees of Blackwater USA, a private security firm based in North Carolina. The guns, the ammo, and even the choppers all belonged to Blackwater.

Dear Sirs,
I think the life of PMC will be hard in western countries like Europe for political reasons.
There is in Somalia a place where to create a "FREE ZONE" for every business activities.
Somalia as You know live in a situation of complete anarchy since 13 years under the control of local warlords.
We appeal to the interests of Companies for this project

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is James, I am 21 years old and as soon as I finish college I plan to enlist in the US Army, enlist not go officer, as I feel I need to see things from both ends before I could lead someone in to harms way. Upon completing my contract I would like to possibly pursue a job / career with an international PMC.
I feel it is important to say that I am not just some kid surfing the web and I hope that my posting here will be taken seriously.
I am a Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, I have been backpacking and mountain climbing both technical and non-technical for the past 11 years, I was a competitive Small Bore marksman, I have worked with active and retired law enforcement personnel in a privet training environment as and assistant firearms instructor, I have experience with both microwave and satellite communications, I am studying media production in college, I am working as a freelance videographer and photographer meaning I have professional experience gathering and documenting information with technology, and I can hopefully say without sounding egotistical that you could say I am a good problem solver (mechanical and social) both in group environments and alone.
I would be vary grateful for any information and recommendations that could be sent my way via e-mail. I am looking to cut through the BS of the media, and learn all I can about what I would need to do to pursue a job with a PMC. Although at this point in time I plane to join the US army first, is there a way to gain employment with a PMC without prior service with the armed focuses.
Thank-you
James
