US forces recently found an entrepreneurial global guerrilla start-up that was manufacturing car bombs. Unfortunately, the competitive marketplace for violence in Iraq will quickly replace them. Failed states like Iraq and Afghanistan are, contrary to perceptions, awash in money. An important axiom of global guerrilla warfare is: if a state fails (either through internal dynamics or by design), markets will form to keep it there.
ST. Soldiers also found more than 12 million Iraqi dinars (about S$14,000) in three safes at the car-bomb production site, along with AK-47 rifles, ammunition, timers and computer boards. Three people were detained... 'The soldiers believe they have captured the financier, the explosive device manufacturer, the spotter and the triggerman,' the statement said. It did not say when the searches were done.
