Some items of interest:
- A DIY (do-it-yourself) bedazzler for $250 (yet another non-lethal weapon that incapacitates people by making them nauseous). Based on a $1 million DHS project that hasn't yielded a weapon yet. Source code, schematics for the board, etc. An example of open source 'resilient community' security (via Shlok). Very slick.
- Ferfal, the author of the excellent blog 'Surviving in Argentina' -- wrote a book on how to survive a financial collapse in nation-state (Argentina) that has succumbed to a corporate kleptocracy. It's called "Surviving the Economic Collapse". He's amazed that it has reached as high as #153 on Amazon. I know the befuddled amazement -- my own book on post-modern guerrilla warfare, Brave New War reached best seller status at #23. Good luck Ferfal!
- India's massive Naxalite (a post-modern open source insurgency) is on the warpath again, shutting down systems from roads to railways to electricity. The blog 'Naxalite Rage' is the best source for insight. Note how it has gained the most traction in places of highest exploitation.
- Robert Mueller, the head of the FBI, almost got phished (he has since been banned from online banking by his wife). Sign of the times -- everyone is trying to take you for all you are worth, from phishers to banksters.
- Sabrina Berman (translated by Kristin Bricker's Narcosphere blog) on the delegitimization of Mexico's militarized response to state collapse in the north. Most likely outcome: a mash-up where the government accepts drug trafficking, with limits on violent crimes that target the public.
- Tony Hodgson of the IFF (International Futures Forum) has built a global model that attempts to actualize complex interdependencies between systems. He's also built a game on the concept. He's looking for feedback.
