- Naked Capitalism. On the decline of objective news reporting in the US (this is beyond the standard political fluff).
- Nigeria's MEND is resuming systems disruption. Jomo Gbomo: "The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) resumes its hostilities against the Nigerian oil industry, the Nigerian armed forces and its collaborators with effect from 00:00Hrs, Friday, October 16, 2009."
- NYTimes. Food banks become platforms for local food production out of necessity. The result is a move towards fresher and healthier food (fewer cans). It also makes a direct connection between growers and local resilience efforts.
- New wave of attacks by the 'Taliban' on Pakistani military/police targets have two objectives: force the Pakistani military to overreact (baiting) and make attempt to unwind the Taliban (a loose collection of groups) via direct negotiations with member groups politically untenable. Fairly weak set of goals.
- The Chinese are preparing for peak oil. Deals from Nigeria to the Gulf of Mexico are in the works.
