Some random items of interest:
- First top to bottom audit of the Fed found $16 TRILLION in secret loans to banks during the most recent financial crisis.
- Interesting. The top Google search term sending traffic to Global Guerrillas is "Open Source Jihad." My article on it is the top result.
- Farmer's markets in Houston Texas. Jon's doing some great work documenting Houston for resilience.
- AgriTrue. A cool new certification effort for organic farming. It's really simple. A page on the Web (I hope MiiU) for every farm/garden to fully disclose how they grow/raise their food. A simple phone scannable (via the phones built in camera) barcode that can be put on any food they sell. You see it in a store, scan it, and get info on how they produce it.
- Edge. Molecular cut and paste. This will give you a feel of how easy it is to build a new virus now. Rumor from a DoD source: In China, there are lots of very small bio-engineering companies operating in apartments directly above restaurants (in million person + cities). As in: we don't need no stinkin' protocols. In a pandemic, the disease probably won't be the problem. The disconnection required to protect ourselves from them will be.
- Here's an interesting tidbit from the survival blog: “Mr. V. mentioned a site of interest in the Onionspace: A movement devoted to anonymity, resilient communities, and free markets. Mr. V. also mentioned: "There is a table of contents viewable from "vanilla" Internet space. For full access, you will need to get set up in Tor .onion-space, then you can access this board." You'll have to dig for more details. I'd suggest that they put up any open projects they launch on MiiU. We're going to make the site an increasingly friendly place for DIY projects related to resilience (useful critiques, advice, help, sharing, etc.). In another interesting twist.
- Oldie but goodie: standing orders for open source warfare.
