Some random items of interest:
- John Robb is taking the Resilient Communities message on the road. He's been invited to be a special speaker at the Aspen Institute/National Geographic Environmental conference next summer (very cool!). Again and again, it looks like John Robb is the go to guy on resilient communities.
- Equity Crowdfinance. Looks like the schmucks will win this (again). Would really love to see someone break the cycle of failure here.
- John Robb is speaking at an FPRI (Foreign Policy Research Institute) event, Irregular Warfare Challenges and Opportunities, in DC on Dec 6th. The topic? Open source warfare from Iraq to Egypt and Beyond. This is becoming the hottest military brief around.
- MF Global and crony capitalism shaking confidence in options/futures markets. Simple. No money is safe.
- Greywater guerrilla girls: Lots of great DIY projects for collecting, improving, and using greywater.
- Charter cities and more in Honduras. Not a flattering article. Anyway, Honduras has changed their constitution to create temporary autonomous zones free of local and national taxation/laws. Both Paul Romer and Patri Friedman have jumped in with projects. While these folks may be calling their projects cities, the reality is that what they actually will end up building are resilient communities (a platform based libertarian version of an RC). In the plus column of Patri's effort: many of the people working on it regularly read John Robb's work on resilient communities!
- Aerotropolis. Cities built around airports to enhance growth as regional hubs. Basically, a method to either retrofit failed cities or build new ones from scratch. Great way to get invites to cities in Brazil/China.
