At Walmapalooza there is only one rule:
Don’t Leave \/\/almart.
The person with enough wit, guts, and conviction to outlast all others wins $1,000 cold hard American dollars. There are a few simple requirements, outlined below, to verify that you are following our one rule. Personal safety and the legality of your actions will be your own responsibility. Enter ‘Walmapalooza’ at your own risk.
*** Joining The GameTo join the game, merely send a text message*, or email containing your phone number to ‘[email protected]’ with the message ‘Game On’.*** Playing The Game
At 6:00 pm March 19th you will receive a text message requiring you to take a photo of yourself at a specific place within the store. You have one hour to complete your mission and send** your photo to:[email protected]
After one hour has elapsed, and each hour thereafter, you will receive another request exactly like the first, but with a new location or simple task. This is one way for us to know you are still in the store. A failure to properly respond in the allotted hour, or being caught leaving the store by a referee will disqualify you as a contestant.Photo Criteria:
All photos must include a clear shot of your face to verify identity as well as allow the referee to clearly see the required location or simple task. Examples may include the location: ‘frozen foods section’, or the task: ‘holding a tomato’. The person in the sample photo qualifies for both. Referees reserve the right to text requests for clearer photo shots, but are not required to do so.Supplies:
You will need a phone capable of taking photos and sending them to our referees. You should charge your phone to maximum capacity before arriving. Do NOT delete your photos, they will be used to verify your accomplishments. Other than that, we don’t really know what you’ll need. Perhaps some money for food? Good walking shoes? A disguise?Fame and Glory
Game information will be posted to our Youtube channel and Facebook group by the name of “Walmapalooza”. Referees and contestants can post interviews with players, pictures, and notes on game design and player drama from before, during and after the event. All contestants are encouraged to post content. Like many projects with real meaning Walmapalooza is a community driven effort.
*See bottom left panel for instructions. Questions and ‘test’ texts to [email protected] are welcome and will be responded to prior to
game time.
*Text messages/photos may be sent to email accounts by typing in the email address instead of a phone number. Try it!
Mission Statement:
Observers of Wamlapalooza will appreciate it as part social experiment, part performance art piece, and part political theater.
As youthful citizens of gray-skied ******, we enjoy both an economic desolation and hopelessness unsurpassed in modern history. In this vacuum of conventional opportunity Walmapalooza provides the chance to intimately observe the mighty marketplace that nourishes our collective bodies as it secretly informs our souls.
Also, it will be fun.Acknowledgments:
We’d like to thank the WTO for always being there, even when times were tough.
Thank you Chinese factory people for keeping the faith alive.
Most importantly, thank you American consumers. Without your constant effort and support, none of this would be possible.
