I can agree about the crisis of faith in the current political elite. However, I question whether this "4GW" crisis posited by Lind and company means that government itself is outdated.

It seems there is a rush to fill the vacuum with various privatized paradigms (to include, perhaps, a revival of the temporal power of ecclesiastical law). I question whether the flaw is with the current form of public decision making, or with the very concept of public decision making.

To clarify my comment (which on second reading is a little muddy), I think that the concept of publicly accountable decision making is not outdated. I think the current system isn't scaling well, but I'm not willing to throw out the whole idea yet.
