Well, might not that depend on one's definition of "conservative"? There seems to be a move toward reaffirming the 10th Amendment. The last time opposition to State sovereignty could be considered liberal rather than authoritarian was probably abolition.

This would open up opportunities for "outsiders" to attain power in America. Somehow I can't see the current political class allowing this to happen?
