I've probably written this before (it seems like I'm always writing it) but complexity has one cause. Government and the many penises which every employee of the government wants to use. As with the US banking system, they fix what doesn't work by creating rigidity in failing systems that can't even attempt change from within as government regulation increased. If this government had been around 100 years ago buggy whips would still be made, although, highly regulated. If the banking system had been allowed to fail change would have come rapidly from within and from without (average investors would be very careful with their money knowing that it's not regulated). GGs adapt. Governments can't even imagine what adaptations looks like.
